You know that part in the movies where the self absorbed hero suddenly gets an epiphany? That he finally realizes that he really does love the Mary Sue heroine and he jumps/runs over manholes and road signs to get to her, find her?
'Only Got One' by frou frou is the song played at that moment where in he finally finds her and tells her what we, the audience, already know; that he's insanely in love with her.
OGO isn't anything like most of Frou frou's songs. It's not provoking, nor is it too busy. It's pretty much what mellow is in Frou Frou terms; it has got that slow and light mood that is sustained all through out the song, it stays that way even when the drums come in.
Lyrics wise, its written in simple language, but (my interpretation of course) it's clear to me what message the song is trying to send out. It mainly talks about taking life for granted when its not supposed to be that way.
In school they often ask us: which lines struck you the most?
For me, it was the chorus and how the first line was repeated THREE times and sung in a very aloof manner and then followed with a warning:'but you've only got one'. She sums up those nintey minute movies with dragging problematic heros/heroines in two lines.
Wow.
Only Got One (lyrics) by Frou Frou
If this is a question
Is maybe a lie?
If yes doesn't mean it
Does when lessen why
You are held in a queue
Someone will be with you shortly
Say I'm wrong
You decide
I don't believe the words you sing sometimes
But then it's your life
Uh huh, it's your life
It's your life
Uh huh, it's your life
But, you've only got one...
If I just to spite you
Placate your disgrace
Will song turn to silence?
Will mask wear your face?
Are you down to be open?
Show me yours and I'll show you mine
Or are you down just to be down?
I don't believe the words you sing sometimes
But then it's your life
Uh huh, it's your life
It's your life
Uh huh, it's your life
But, you only got one
You've only got...one...
